
Each year a PAGE STAR student is chosen for each school based high school seniors must have the highest score on one test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. This years recipient for the PAGE STAR student is Jiby Yohannan, a senior in our Academy of Research and Medical Science Program at South Cobb High School. The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Department of Education and locally by the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce. The STAR program has honored more than 20,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic success. Jiby Yohannan has chosen Mr. Victor Burrell as his STAR Teacher.
During Jiby’s four year at South Cobb, has participated and held leadership positions in: Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Government Association, HOSA, Leo Club,Eagle Ambassadors, Debate Club, MSAC, Muslim Student Association, Science Club, Tennis Club, ASCA, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has also played an active role in his community such as currently on the leadership committee for the WellStar Cobb Hospital Vounteer Program. Jiby has been accepted into several universities including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, the University of Georgia's Honor's Program, and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He has decided to attend Georgia Tech on a scholarship to be part of the Biomolecular Engineering Science and Technology Scholars Program.
He has received scholarships such as the Betty Gray Educational Scholarship, Theodore Roosevelt Public Speaking Contest Scholarship, and the South Cobb Rotary Club STAR Student Scholarship as well as academic scholarships to Mercer University, Spring Hill College, and the University of Georgia. After his undergraduate studies, Jiby intends on going to medical school to pursue a career in nephrology.
