All magnet students seek the College Preparatory Seal with Distinction and have a minor concentration in either Research or Medical Sciences. A student may earn a concentration in both Research and Medical Sciences. Additionally, students may pursue a dual seal diploma that combines a College Preparatory seal with a Career Technology seal. Refer to the 4-Year Plan for specific requirements.
In addition to the general course of study required for a diploma from a Cobb County High School, magnet students follow a prescribed curriculum in math and science. The core classes establish a firm foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and technology that support future research and studies in medical science. Core courses are based upon current Cobb County honors curriculum. Due to the unique nature of the program, specialized classes are developed and proposed to the County and State to provide students the opportunity to participate in specific fields of interest.
Students have the option to concentrate on either the Research or Medical Sciences Track. Students in the Research Track take classes that culminate with a research project and an internship with a professional in their field of study. Areas of research include, but are not limited to, life sciences, physics, chemistry, and technology. Students in the Medical Science track design and implement a research project and participate in an internship with a professional in a selected field of medicine. It is possible for students to earn a dual Magnet seal by completing the requirements for both tracks.
